Welcome to YOHO:
Youth Health Organisation

Our History

History

YOHO was registered in 21ST September 2012 as a society to cater for youth health programs in the parent organization, Kenya National Youth Council. It was formed to support the youth with information on youth health risks and their preventive measures. Since then the organization has grown to support LGTBQ and SGBV support programs among the adolescent and youth in universities and colleges.

YOHO strategic focus areas are:
  • Educating the youth ages 14-24 years on SRHR issues that affect them and linking them to reproductive health service providers for youth friendly services.
  • Partnering with the university and college administration in advocating for equal reproductive health and rights among all.
  • Raising awareness about and promoting new and existing sexual and reproductive health programs like modern contraceptive methods.
  • Reducing morbidity and mortality due to unsafe abortion amongst the youth by introducing Information technology applications where youth can access safe abortion information and services.
  • Introduction of online platforms through our TUBONGE website which has YouTube channel called “TOUCH MONDAYS”, promotion of youth led skits, youth led podcast, conversations, and social media presence.
  • Raising awareness on GBV in institutions of higher learning which include sexual harassment, domestic violence, intimate partner violence, rape, assault, and homophobic bullying.
  • Linking the youths with reporting mechanisms, and free comprehensive Reproductive health care for the survivors of Gender Based Violence.

Relevant and Innovative Experience within SRHR:

The organization started a TUBONGE website which means “lets talk” this has incorporated YouTube channel called “Touch Mondays” through which we create content of SRHR in the language the youth can understand. The content created is in form of short skits, discussions, and podcasts, which can be shared through social media platforms. Through this TUBONGE website platform we have strengthened SRHR information dissemination to the youths and increased online traffic.
